Roses signs agreement to help school canteen program
If children are to get a good education they have to be well-fed and able to concentrate on their studies. The Belize School Canteen Association has been at the forefront of the school feeding effort. Today they got a financial boost from a member of the private sector.
Albert Moore, General Manager, Roses Paper Products
“The funds that will be provided by Roses Paper Products will be used only for the finance of the establishment of canteens and for new equipments and also for the purchase of food to feed the children.”
Moore says that each month Roses will give the Belize School Canteen Association a check based on sales of toilet paper on the Belizean market. According to the agreement, the more toilet paper sold, the more the Canteen gets. For instance, if Roses sells six thousand cases of toilet paper for the month the Canteen Association will receive 15 cents per case or about nine hundred dollars. If they sell eight thousand they get 20 cents per case or one thousand six hundred dollars. However, the Association will have to submit a quarterly report on how the funds are spent to Roses.
Ruby Harris, President, Belize Canteen Association
“We are looking at Lucky Strike Government School. Los Tambos, Arenal as well as other schools that we want to help. We want to start up new ones and improve existing ones. So, we will be looking at needs. The whole community will decide where the finances will go. We always wanted money to buy food in a bulk.
Myself and Mr. Moore sat down and worked out the arrangements and I feel very comfortable with it. Once the public takes part in buying Belizean products then the canteen will benefit. A lot rests on the consumer.”
Apart from assisting the Belize Canteen Association, Roses Paper Products has contributed to many different schools and charitable organizations. They have also assisted with maintenance of toilet paper on a regular basis to the Raymond Parks Night Shelter, the Salvation Army and Ghann’s Rest House. Hyacinth Latchman for News Five.
