Police Seize Marijuana Parcels in Belmopan and Corozal District
While the Briceño administration and the Belize Coalition of Churches are preparing their respective campaigns leading up to the cannabis referendum, the Belize Police Department has been busy seizing quantities of the drug in various locations across the country. In Belmopan on Wednesday, a rectangular-shaped parcel wrapped in transparent plastic was discovered during an operation in the Mayflower Street area. Inside the package was over a thousand grams of suspected cannabis. This morning, in the Corozal District, twelve parcels containing seven thousand, six hundred and eighty grams of suspected cannabis were retrieved from a bushy area along the Chan Chen Road. Those packages were found inside a black plastic bag. In Chan Chen Village, around eight a.m., police conducted searches in an empty lot and also discovered a black plastic bag containing eight parcels containing almost four thousand grams of suspected cannabis. In all three cases, no one was found in the respective vicinities and the quantities of drugs were labeled as found property.
