Belize among the Strong Teams from Central American Countries

From as early as Friday, the team from El Salvador was already in country and over the weekend, the others arrived, except for Panama and Costa Rica who will not participate this year. President of the Belize Volleyball Association Allan Sharp says the five teams competing are all formidable.

“El Salvador came in this evening. They are excited, they are coming to medal. They are not coming here just to participate; they are expecting to do well. If you remember in 2018, we were the team to knock them out. If it wasn’t for us, they would have placed higher so they have a vengeance against us. But we are here ready to defend Belize at home, so we are ready. Costa Rica unfortunately did not come. We are very disappointed; we wanted to beat them again on home turf. We’ve been the only country to beat Costa Rica since 1997 and we wanted to do that again. Unfortunately, they didn’t show up. But that doesn’t take away from the motivation. We are ready to go and we think that we will do well. Panama and Costa Rica won’t be making it. Panama has been having a lot of financial issues from a federation standpoint, but Nicaragua coming by road. Honduras coming in – they are expected to be one of the strong teams cause they’ve had a chance to play internationally just recently. Guatemala always strong, good program and El Salvador and then us.”
