The Laddie Gillett Foundation Continues to Seek Justice for Laddie

We also asked Valdez about the vision behind the creation of the Laddie Gillett Foundation. She shared details on how the foundation and Laddie’s family have navigated the last twelve months in their pursuit for justice.  Here is what she told us.

“The reason was first of all to create awareness, second of all to not forget, because we don’t want to stay in the past. We want to move on. But, we still stay true to our values, creating awareness, trying to incorporate a more positivity into the police force. But, we also want to be there for any family that has lost someone just like we have. We also want to be there to let them to know our recovery process. It has been a journey, but it is ok. At the end of the day we are all humans. I won’t be polite in saying it has been a successful or productive journey. We all know how difficult it is to have a great change in any part of the world. We are very aware of that, however like I said, it is a journey and along with our healing journey we are taking our justice journey too. We will be patient but we will prevail. It is true, a lot of crimes get forgotten and thus unsolved, but we don’t want to be forgotten. We are ok with carrying on the process and we will fight. We will be there for Laddie at the end of the day. Of course, the year has not been easy in terms of healing or in terms of seeing what we want. However, we are very aware of this, and we will push the process.”
