Mother wants daughter’s killer found
While police decline to report recent incidents of serious crime, except twice a week, at the same time they have little to say regarding a number of unsolved murders. Chief among them is the killing of thirteen year old Sherilee Nicholas. The Belize City girl, missing since September, was found stabbed to death on October eighth a few hundred yards off the Western Highway near mile eight.

“The marks, the cuts, the stabs. I think she gone through a lot of things. Now I don’t know what she really faced but from what I see she gone through something.”
According to Nicholas’ mother, thirty one year old June Gabourel
the past three months have been emotional and frustrating.

“I find myself, just these past few days, just crying even through the street, like my eye water, when my eye water is coming it feels hot. Sometimes I don’t even know when I am crying.”
Since Nicholas’ murder, Gabourel has adorned the family house with memories of her daughter including Sherilee’s artwork, a yellow ribbon and a brand new outfit she never did get to wear for the September celebrations. Gabourel believes by keeping Sherilee’s memory alive, both society and authorities will not forget what happened and will one day bring the killer to justice.

“I sit down right on my step and I just pray and ask the good Lord to give me all the strength and courage I would need to go out there and face what I have to face.
The message I would like to send to both parents and children, parents should talk to their children more often and listen to them very carefully. No matter if you have to say anything kind of little funny or as we would say, “stop your stupidness” or “no talk fool,” listen to it because it is very important. And for the children, I would like them to know to walk in groups. It doesn’t have to be in groups of two but just walk in groups and if they want to leave to buy anything, go together or tell the other one where they will go, what they want to buy or wait for me it is very important.”
According to police they do not have a suspect at this time although they are pursuing several leads.
