San Pedro power line opens tomorrow
It looks like the residents of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye will be having a brighter Christmas this year. Work on the Belize Electricity Limited’s submarine power line connecting the town to the national power grid situated at the mainland coast near Maskall Village has been completed. The line, which was constructed over an eight-month period, is the first submarine cable to be laid down in Belize and cost B.E.L. more than twelve million Belize dollars. Tomorrow, ceremonies marking the opening of the line will take place at B.E.L.’s substation in San Pedro Town. Prime Minister Said Musa, will deliver the keynote address while Robert Usher, B.E.L. chairman will commission the line. According to B.E.L., they are confident that the submarine power line will be able to deliver an even more efficient and reliable power supply to its customers in San Pedro. The cable was laid by Alcatel Cable of France. The project was financed through a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank.
