Youth Representation on the People’s Constitutional Commission
Minister Usher was also asked about youth representation on the People’s Constitutional Commission. He stated that the Good Governance Unit has been unable to identify an umbrella youth organization to select a youth representative. Notwithstanding this challenge, Usher says, identifying a youth representative to appoint to the commission is a part of the process.
Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Constitutional & Political Reform
“There is no real umbrella youth organization that all the different youth organization that all the different youth organizations fall under. Really, that task was given to the head of the unit, Mr. Ross to try to meet with as many of these organizations as possible and it is not only the youth. He also had to meet with the LGBTQ community, because there is more than one organization representing them as well. And, they have already selected their representative and alternate. I am not sure if the youth representative has been selected, but we did task the unit in meeting with these different groups. So, they are trying to meet with as many persons as possible, bring in as many persons as possible, try to be as representative as possible to make sure whoever is on this commission represent the interest of Belizeans.”
