Three prisoners transferred from Chetumal
As part of a prisoner transfer agreement between Mexico and Belize, last Friday, three more prisoners were received from the Mexican prison authorities in Chetumal. Present for the transfer were Salvador Figueroa, Belize’s Ambassador to Mexico and Bernard Adolphus, Superintendent of Prisons. The prisoners who were all serving ten year sentences for drug trafficking, are forty four year old Eric Duhaney, who has been in a Chetumal prison since January of 1996, twenty one year old Allan Felix, who was sentenced in December of 1997 and sixty eight year old Daniel Howard, who has been in jail since March of 1997. According to the Department of Corrections, this is the sixteenth transfer of prisoners from Mexico since a treaty was signed in 1987.
