Cruise ship brings Santa to Belize
Santa arriving by ship? Well, he did today in the form of five hundred brand new toys brought by the crew of a cruise ship which has only been visiting Belize for a few weeks. News Five spoke with the cruise line’s agent in Belize Stanley Longsworth about the donation to Belizean children.
Stanley Longsworth, Caribbean Shipping Agency
“The gifts are a donation from the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association along with Premier Cruises. As you may know Premier Cruises through the Sea Breeze comes into Belize on a weekly basis. We thought this would be a good way to bring Christmas cheer to the under privileged children of Belize.
We contacted the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Youth Department and through that ministry we were able to get Ms. Humes. We organized for her to contact special children from various schools throughout the city. We brought them here this afternoon and we tried to bring Christmas cheer to let them get the spirit of Christmas. This is our first year doing it and we are very pleased to be able to do it. Hopefully next year we will do much better.”
Besides providing the use of their grounds the Radisson Fort George Hotel also donated soft drinks and snacks for the special children hosted at the party this afternoon. Toys that were not given out today will be sent over to the Department of Women’s Affairs for distribution.
