YLAB Request Youth Representative Seat Request Seat on P.C.C.
Young Leaders Alliance of Belize (YLAB) is requesting at seat on the People’s Constitution Commission. Two representatives from the youth organization were present at the National Assembly yesterday for the Foreign Affairs Committee Meeting on the People’s Constitution Commission Bill 2022. A release from YLAB says the representatives were there to present the organization’s request for YLAB to be appointed as Youth Representative on the People’s Constitutional Commission. We heard from those two YLAB members following the meeting.
Bryton Codd, YLAB Member
“This was a sitting of the People’s Constitution Commission Bill 2022 and we were here on behalf of the Young Leaders Alliance of Belize to make our recommendation to the Bill which whether by intention or unconscientiously excluded young people from having a seat at the Commission. So, we are we are here to express our recommendations and vogue for our place around the decision making table. I think it is important that young people become more engaged of national development processes such as these, simply because we account for seventy percent of our nation’s population. So, to have been excluded from this process was just is a blatant disregard for the impact that decisions will have coming out from this reformation, primarily to young people.”
Dominique Noralez, YLAB Member
“Young people are really the majority of the country first of all, so young people cannot be divorced from political and social processes. What we at YLAB has named as a generational task of constitutional reform. So, that is why we must be here. Our shared numbers and our contributions that we have made and will continue to make as Belize forge her forward.”
