Government promises to push Cho murder investigation
On Monday the widow of Mayan Leader Julian Cho and a number of his close associates came to Belize City from the Toledo District to ask the government and the police to take another look at Cho’s death. It seems Maggie Cho’s pleas have not gone unheard, at least she has been successful in getting a new team of officers appointed to investigate and Attorney General Dickie Bradley has promised to assist the family in obtaining a second postmortem. Adele Catzim of SAGE, the Southern Alliance for Grassroots Empowerment, told News Five today that Maggie Cho met with the Minister of Rural Development Marcial Mes Monday night and the Attorney General the following morning when they were guests on LOVE FM. She says the family is pleased with the announcement yesterday that Cabinet, at the request of the Ministry of National Security had decided to look into the matter further. Maggie Cho held a press conference in Belize City to publicly state that she and a number of other people believe her husband was murdered and had not simply fallen down the stairs of their home on December first. Cho alleges that her husband had received death threats from some of the workers who had lost jobs with the suspension of the Malaysian logging concession in Toledo, something Cho and the Toledo Maya Cultural Council had been instrumental in bringing about. Maggie Cho, Bartolo Teul and Pio Coc will be guests tonight on “One On One”. The discussion was recorded on Monday night.
