City Centre management to be privatized

Among the decisions made at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, the privatization of the management of the Belize City Centre. Chief of Staff in the Prime Minster’s office Godfrey Smith was appointed to oversee the project to enhance the sporting complex. In the Ministry of National Security it seems that the pleas of Julian Cho’s family and friends to continue the investigation into his death have been heard. Cabinet decided to undertake a further investigation to try and in their words “resolve ambiguities surrounding the recent death of Mayan Leader Julian Cho.” Cho’s body was found at his home on December first. His wife Maggie Cho and other members of the Toledo Mayan community held a press conference earlier this week asking the Ministry and the Police for assistance since they believe he was murdered. In the Ministry of Housing, Cabinet agreed that under the BIMCO housing project forty houses will be allotted to teachers each year. This decision, says the Prime Minister’s office, was made after a request from the Teacher’s Union to the government. In the Sugar Industry Ministry, it was announced that Joe Lopez was appointed as chairman of the Sugar Price Stabilization Committee. And finally in the Office of the Prime Minister Cabinet decided that early in the New Year efforts will be taken to find a Contractor General. The Prime Minister will be reporting on the accomplishments of his government in its first one hundred days tonight at a People’s Assembly in Belize City. The event takes place at St. Mary’s Hall.
