Aunt charged in baby abandonment
A young woman accused of helping her sister give birth in a Belmopan public restroom and then abandoning the baby in a trash bin appeared in court this morning. Twenty year old Beverly Flores of Dangriga has been charged with attempted murder, abandonment of infant likely to cause grevious harm and endeavoring to conceal a birth. She is to reappear in court on January fourth and is out on bail. Her eighteen year old sister Kimberly Flores, who police believe is the child’s mother, is still hospitalized but police say she will also be charged upon her release. The two women were apprehended in Dangriga yesterday after police discovered the infant who was still alive at the Belmopan Market Square trash. A pair of bloody jeans was also discovered at the scene.
