B.S.I. Says Its Has Safety Measures in Place for Vehicle Fleet

Over the past two months, there have been two trucks belonging to Belize Sugar Industries Limited that were involved in serious traffic accidents. Luckily for the drivers behind those vehicles, they were not hurt. Today, we asked B.S.I.’s Director of Finance, Shawn Chavarria what measures the company has in place to ensure proper safety of its vehicle fleet.

“In terms of our transportation fleet, we have eight sugar trucks and six molasses, so if one goes down, it doesn’t impact the continuity of the operations. It just means we will have to take some time to get back a replacement of that truck. Thankfully, in these two incidents, our drivers escaped unhurt, and that’s why we have safety measures. These trucks are all fitted with G.P.S. so that it tracks the speed. There’s a limit – for molasses it’s forty-five miles per hour, for raw sugar, it’s thirty-five miles per hour. Here at the factory that is monitored. There wasn’t any loss of goods. Both were molasses and thankfully the tankers were intact, they suffered no damage, so there was no spill, there was no was no loss of product.”
