Swing Bridge to remain closed through January

It seems Christmas shoppers won’t be getting any relief from the downtown run-a-round despite promises by the Ministry of Works. Today the Ministry announced that the Swing Bridge will not be open in time for Christmas, but will remain closed until the end of January which is its scheduled date for completion under the contractual agreement. The Ministry says bad weather since Mitch has severely affected the work and the current phase which includes sandblasting and painting cannot be carried out under present weather conditions. So, drivers will just have to continue to have a little more patience until after the New Year.
