Additional prizes for BECOL competition

In addition to the first and second prizes awarded yesterday by Belize Electric Company Limited to the winners of their Secondary School Science Competition, Programme for Belize has also awarded eight merit prizes. Three students from Excelsior College won a scholarship to participate in a two-week research project at inland and marine field stations this summer. Five students from Muffles College and Nazarene High School won overnight field trips to Programme for Belize’s Rio Bravo field station. In addition all twenty-six participants in the BECOL competition received an educational gift packet from BECOL. First place winner Corrie Chang of St. John’s College won a fully loaded computer, printer and accessories for himself and one for his school which were purchased by BECOL from Business Computer Systems. His teacher Noemi Waight received a five hundred dollar cash prize from BECOL. Second place winner Gian Cho of Belmopan Comprehensive School received five hundred dollars in education certificates.
