Minister of Education Says Plans are on Target for the Reopening of Schools
The new school year is less than a month away from opening and the Ministry of Education is ready for that date. Today, we caught up with Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca who said that the ministry is prepared for the start of a new school year with everyone back in person, following interruptions since 2020 with the COVID-19 pandemic. He also said that there have been no hiccups for the start of a new program by the ministry to completely sponsor the students of four south side government schools as of this September.
Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education
“We’re excited about the opportunities this year. We’ve been doing a lot of work over the summer. We’ve had a very good Let’s Catch Up summer program still going on to try to help a targeted group of young people so that they’re better ready for the new school year. A lot of work has been going on and we think we’re going to have a very successful academic year. We’re on target with the Education Upliftment Project – Together We Rise. four government (high) schools on the south side of Belize City. Things are going well. That’s a comprehensive program that not only provides free tuition, fees, but also provides a healthy start feeding program in each of these schools. We provide our students with uniforms, with books, with digital devices. We’re also doing infrastructure work at these schools to improve the learning environment, so everything is on track.”
