U.D.P. Chairman to ComPol Williams,”From Police to Politician”

Chairman Peyrefitte contends that his application to protest was denied on political grounds. He accuses the Commissioner of Police of attempting to muffle the U.D.P., asserting that ComPol Williams’ feelings are hurt and that he is thin skin. When asked how protestors would respond to an attempt by police officers to shut down the protest, Peyrefitte told reporters that he will not resist arrest.

“We should not be muffled, we cannot be muffled and it is another example as to why the Commissioner of police needs to resign, because he has gone completely from police to politician. He has allowed politics to do this. We checked the record; we never at any one time deny the Pup or any origination the right to protest, when were in government. It is not something we should deny people. We will go out there and let our voices be heard. This is democracy. This is not Russia. This is not Bulgaria. This is ridiculous. Let us go. Let us have our voices be heard.3 Then the people will decide whether we have a legitimate voice or not at the next election, or to continue a debate and a conversation as to the state of a country. That is what happens in a democracy.”

“In the event that the police decides to break up the protest?”

“We won’t resist any police action. If the police decide that they want to take particular act, we will follow all orders of the police. If the police come and tell you, Pete you need to move off this street and if I believe that Johnny Briceño might own you officer, Johnny Briceño might own the gas station, but ih nuh own the street. Ih nuh own me. So, officer as long I am standing on the street, which I public property for which I pay every day, I am not moving from here. Now, if the officer decides that he or she want to arrest me, I wah put out my hand and get arrested. I aint fighting with no police.”
