Columbian Charged with Rape of Guatemalan Woman
A Columbian national working in Belize as a Computer Technician was charged with rape and remanded to the Belize Central Prison today after he was denied bail. Forty-six-year-old Luis Alejandro Rios is accused of committing the sexual offense on Sunday, upon a twenty-three-year-old woman. While rape is a bailable offense, Prosecutor, Sgt. Theodore Lopez objected to bail on several grounds. Rios’ attorney, Rene Montero Junior argued that his client should receive bail, but the magistrate denied him on two grounds: one that he is not a Belizean and is a flight risk, and also for the safety of the complainant since preliminarily, the facts show that Rios attacked her twice.
