Salvation Army opens Kettle Appeal

It’s not yet Garifuna Settlement Day but by at least one measure, the Christmas season has already begun. Hyacinth Latchman made the discovery this morning on Albert Street.

You see and hear them every year around this time and in the wake of our deliverance from the ravages of Hurricane Mitch, the Salvation Army Kettle Appeal has special meaning this season. Chief Justice Manuel Sosa officially launched the drive this morning. Regional Commander Captain Stanley Griffin believes it will be even more successful than in the past.

“Because of the trust and confidence the public has placed in the Salvation Army over the years and we delivered. I do not have any fear and I know that they will once again support this appeal.”

Griffin is aiming at a goal of $60,000 dollars. The money will be used to support a number of the Army’s many activities including the feeding of over a thousand children. Hyacinth Latchman for News Five.

Figures recently released show that in the United States the Salvation Army is the largest single recipient of charitable contributions, beating out such heavyweights as the Red Cross and American Cancer Society.
