Building collapses, injures several workers
Today, shortly before lunchtime a couple of construction workers at the corner of Central American Boulevard and Iguana Street narrowly escaped serious injuries after a part of the house they were working on suddenly collapsed. According to Leroy Flowers, who was just next door, when he heard the loud noise, he first thought it was a traffic accident, but when he looked outside and saw the huge cloud of dust, he knew the men were in trouble and quickly went outside to help.
Leroy Flowers, Eyewitness
“Today I only hear when the building tumble down and then we take them out and haul them out and so.”
Q: “You said you were next door and you heard a loud noise?”
Leroy Flowers
“Yes, and when I heard the noise I came out to see what happened and when I reached there, they done come out already. They already took them out and they went to that place, the hospital. The only thing that happen to them, their fingers and foot were not badly hurt.”
Q: “How many people got hurt?”
Leroy Flowers
“Only two, but they did not get bad, bad hurt or nothing.”
Q: “You don’t know how the wall collapsed?”
Leroy Flowers
“They must have hold onto the wall and they must have been nailing a piece of board and they were holding on and the wall came down on them.”
It is still not known what may have caused a part of the cement structure to give way.
