B.C.B. still broadcasting

If you thought after October thirty first that you would hear nothing at all when you tuned your radio dial to 88.9 or 91.1, you may be wondering why there is still music on Radio Belize and Friends FM. Today News Five spoke with the B.C.B.’s Acting Programming Director Adrian Harris who says that it is because of Hurricane Mitch and the possible need for announcements about flooding or other problems that the station is still on. He also says last month the station had invited past announcers to come back and do some special programs, but that was interrupted by Mitch and so the remaining announcers are trying to put something together for this week.

“What we’re trying to do is have announcers like Brian Mosiah who has a popular morning show here on the B.C.B., the Morning Mix. Also we are having with us Ramon Vasquez who worked on Love FM, uhm, Friends FM, for the initial days of Friends FM, will be with us in the afternoon. Apart from that I think the mood of the announcers who are still here with us is basically we are going to have a party. You know? We’re basically going to have a party, so if you listen to Friends FM, the B.C.B. and you’re wondering what’s happening it’s like we are going out with our own bang.”

Announcers Neil Hall and Mario Lopez are keeping Adrian company this last week and there are still four or five staff members at the B.C.B. Ann Wade, the secretary of the transition committee in charge of the divestment process says that the committee’s work has been put off schedule by Hurricane Mitch and that the end of November is the new date set for the completion of the paperwork and valuation of assets. She said after that a prospectus will be made available to the public and prospective equipment buyers.
