M16 Rounds, an AK47 and a 9mm Glock are Recovered by Police
The proliferation of guns into the country, firearms that are brought over illegally from neighboring Guatemala and Mexico, is a year-round issue for law enforcement. A majority of those weapons are used in the commission of violent crimes. Earlier today, police in Corozal District discovered thirty, five point five-six rounds of ammunition from a cane field. Those bullets are commonly used in M16 rifles. In the west, police were also able to retrieve an AK47 rifle that was tossed out of a vehicle near a checkpoint in St. Matthews Village. Lastly, a nine millimeter Glock pistol has also been removed from the streets in Cayo District. The Belize Police Department did not indicate whether arrests have been made in connection to any of these discoveries.
