City Council set Nov. 15 as Hurricane Appeal Day

The Belize City Council is setting aside this Wednesday as its official Hurricane Appeal Day. The council is asking that donations of canned food, clothing, footwear and medicines be dropped off at the following locations: Belize City Council’s main office on North Front Street, Pound Yard office on Cemetery Road, Traffic Department on Dean Street or the Commercial Center on Regent Street. All donations will be shared with the various embassies whose countries have been affected by Mitch. In related news, the government of Italy is providing Belize with one hundred thousand dollars to be made available through UNICEF. The funds will be used by the government through the Ministry of Human Development to provide relief to flood victims as well as cover the costs of food and transportation during the evacuation of residents of low lying areas to shelters.
