Honduran Embassy filled with relief supplies

Even though Crooked Tree is underwater, the residents there are not thinking of themselves but those in need elsewhere. Crooked Tree has been sending donations of clothing and food to Nazarene Church and High School in Belize City to aid their relief drive. Franklin Flowers of Nazarene High School told News Five that so far they have collected twenty boxes which were taken to the Honduran Embassy today. Flowers says this is just the first phase of their effort and they welcome more donations. He says they would like to thank the B.D.F. stationed in Crooked Tree who transported the boxes over the flood waters so they could be added to the items collected.

The employees of James Brodie and Company are also collecting food and other items. So far they have brought in over eight hundred dollars worth of goods.

And with all the community efforts underway the Honduran Embassy in Belize City is becoming a command center for sorting and getting goods ready to be shipped to the areas of that country hardest hit. The lower flat of the Ambassador’s residence is literally filled to the rafters with goodwill donations and there was a shipping container already full on the street side. Provisions are still pouring in.

Tomorrow a boat will be coming in from San Pedro and docking at the old customs wharf before leaving for Honduras. Although the people of San Pedro were themselves affected by the rough seas Mitch brought with him, San Pedranos, even as they pick up the pieces, are reaching out to those hit even harder.
