Around midnight on Friday, Ernest Ellis Blanco stood beside his motorcycle speaking to thirty-three-year-old Denia Montolla at her residence in Bella Vista Village. While there, a car drove up and Elias Pacheco, Montolla’s ex common-law husband, alighted the vehicle with a machete in hand and attacked Blanco.

“It was really frightening because I was here with my partner and my kids when everything happened. The person that attacked the deceased came in a vehicle and exited with a machete and began chopping him.”
“Why would he do something like this to Mister Blanco?”
Voice of: Eyewitness [Translated]
“Perhaps due to jealously.”
A wounded Blanco ran onto an unnamed street with a machete-wielding Pacheco in pursuit. He collapsed and there is where he would be killed before his attacker jumped into the waiting vehicle and fled the scene.

“So I immediately called for the police and they came.”
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, Belize Police Department
“Mister Blanco ran onto the street where he collapsed. He was later transported to the polyclinic in Independence Village where he succumbed to his injuries.”
An eyewitness describes Blanco as a good person.
Voice of: Eyewitness [Translated]
“He was a good person; very relaxed. He didn’t mess with anyone. He had his wife with their children. It’s hard for me because I always knew him as a good person. He couldn’t fight off his attacker because he didn’t have anything to defend himself with.”
A wanted poster has since been issued for Pacheco who police believe is armed and dangerous.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, Belize Police Department
“We have since issued a wanted person poster for Elias Pacheco, a Honduran national and we have since contacted our neighboring countries to be on the lookout for him. We believe that he is still armed and dangerous and hopefully we could get him before he flees the country.”
“Had any prior report been made about him being violent towards his ex?”
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
“Prior report, I cannot confirm at this time but we are certain that he was an ex common-law and it looks like his jealousy put him in such a rage that he took the life of another man.”
