Bar Waitress Murdered on Tomb in Independence Village

Marcelina Makin

Two murders were recorded in the south in less than forty-eight hours. The first involved the chopping death of a man in Bella Vista Village, but it was a most gruesome discovery of the body of a woman in Independence Village that is gripping the crime news from the south tonight. The resident from Santa Teresa Village, Toledo had been working at a bar in Independence for about two months. There are reports that she had been robbed and possibly even raped prior to a grisly discovery this morning when she was found dead atop a tomb inside the Independence Cemetery.  News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

Around 6:30 this morning, as a resident went to lay flowers at a loved one’s tomb in Independence Village, a most gruesome discovery was made inside the cemetery. The decomposing body of a woman was seen on a grave – it was face down with cut wounds to the back of the head and face.

“So what details can you tell us preliminarily?”

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood

“A body was found; she had injuries and officers are examining the scene.”

“And where is that scene located sir?”

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood

“Independence cemetery.”

The deceased has since been identified as Marcelina Makin, a resident of Santa Teresa Village, who worked as a waitress at Blue Angels Bar Malt & Cider, approximately two blocks from the cemetery. According to police, she was last seen alive on Friday at work and her body discovered was this morning. Big Falls resident Susana Coc, who was a coworker of the deceased, says she heard about the tragedy when she arrived at the village today.

Reliable reports to News Five suggest that Makin may have been sexually assaulted before being killed. While that has not been officially confirmed, Coc says that Ana, as she is affectionately known, was the victim of a robbery about two weeks ago.

Duane Moody
