Govt. appoints Forestry Advisory Committee

In other government news, the Forestry Advisory Committee held its first meeting last week in Belize City. The committee, appointed by the Prime Minister and Minister of Natural resources and the Environment John BriceƱo, is composed of chairman Dr. Gilbert Canton of the Forest Products Industry and members Oswaldo Sabido, Principal Forest Officer, Jose “Pepe” Garcia, President of the Belize Audubon Society, and Jose Avila agroforestry economist. The committee will advise the minister and Ministry of Natural Resources on forest land use, forest management and industries, conservation and other issues. The advisory committee will also be responsible for facilitating the review and adoption of a forest policy statement to replace the 1954 version still in use. The committee says it welcomes any constructive comments to help carry out its work. These can be sent to the Chairman of the Forestry Advisory Committee P.O.
