A Succession Plan for Crooked Tree Chair

The last time News Five spoke with Brandon Gillett was back on August eighteenth, when several areas across the country, including parts of Crooked Tree Village, were under water after two days of rainfall. Several persons had to be evacuated and Gillett was on the ground helping those villagers to shelter at the Crooked Tree Multipurpose Building. Now, village council elections only just concluded earlier this year, in June. So what happens next? Belize Rural North area representative, Marconi Leal says that a bye-election will have to take place.

“He is so aggressive, wanting to get things done for Crooked Tree and a young man. And I think about his wife and son, little Warren. When I heard it’s three of them I started to wonder if it’s the chairman and his son. Is his son in there? We had to hurry ask and they said no, it is not Warren cause I love Warren so much. So it is very touching, it is very rough for all of us.”

“So what happens now? They will have to replace the chairman?”

“Yes, we will definitely have to have a bye-election because it is early. Maybe if it was just a few months before village council elections then we would let it go. But now, we would definitely have to have a bye-election in Crooked Tree for chairmanship.”
