Government Seeks Funds to Help Rebuild St Mary’s School

At the start of the school year, parents of children attending Saint Mary’s Primary School were taken aback when they learned that they needed to make eleventh-hour arrangements to have their children continue to learn from home instead of attending classes. That’s because the structural integrity of the school building and hall were determined to be perilous. The management of Saint Mary’s has since worked out an arrangement with the Samuel Haynes Institute of Learning on the other side of the city for the children to use their hall as classrooms for the children, while they worked on replacing the old building. Today, Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca shared that the ministry and the government are seeking funds to help the Anglican management to rebuild Saint Mary’s Primary School.

“They have found an alternative building, as I understand it, on the south side of Belize City that they will be using, and we are going to work with the government in trying to fund funds – ultimately the solution is building a new building for them. So we’re working with the Social Investment Fund, we’re working with the Ministry of Finance to determine how best we can access funds for that purpose.”
