B.P.F. Leader To P.M.: Practice What You Preach

Nancy Marin

The Prime Minister’s recent speech that was delivered at the Seventy-Seventh United Nations General Assembly in New York drew commendation from quite a few people. P.M. John Briceño spoke on issues such as the war between Russia and Ukraine, the rise in global poverty rates, among other topics. But while the P.M. was lauded for his speech, Leader of the Belize People’s Front, Nancy Marin posited that if more of the speech could be put into action at home, it would make for an even better achievement. Further to that bit of criticism, Marin also took aim at the Opposition U.D.P. to get its act together.

“Everything that he says is what we want to hear, what we want to see and what the international community wants to hear. So I know that they know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about. My concern is that while the grandstanding with left-wing philosophies, left-wing ideologies abroad, I don’t think that we’re seeing that in Belize and I would like to see more of it. I’d like the Prime Minister to – what he’s saying abroad, to practice at home. I have actually spoken to Mr. Barrow and actually to several of their candidates because some of their candidates are looking to leave them and although that would be really good for the B.P.F. because they are looking to us, my advice is to hold on, try to get it together. They really need to get their act together. As the Leader of the B.P.F., I would really like to have some of them, not all, but not at this point. At this point they need to get their act together and not for their party but for the people that they vowed to serve. This is not serving the interest of the people. This is serving their egos, and this is not the way – this is not the type of leadership that Belize ever wants.”
