Police Confident in Securing Conviction for Bernard Timmons Murder

Kareem Musa

As we reported, police arrested and charged thirty-three-year-old Nimrod Catzim for the murder of Belize City resident Bernard Timmons on Independence Day. Catzim is no stranger to the law, as he had been to court twice before on separate charges of murder. Yet and still, he was roaming the streets as a free man up until the time of his most recent murder charge.  Minister Musa commented.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs

“He was out on the streets because in terms of the court process. It is something out of control because the judicial process in both of the instances found him not guilty and he was able to leave. So, that is something of great concern. The prosecution rate is something that we continue to work along with the Director of Public Prosecutions to ensure that we are securing convictions in these cases. Definitely that is a huge concern and in this particular case I have been assured by the Commissioner of Police that the evidence is solid, not just in terms of the camera evidence but in terms of eyewitness evidence that we will secure a conviction. It is hugely unfortunate. Mr. Timmons was a client of mine. His daughter was a client of mine so that one really hurt me personally.”
