COMPOL Williams on Antelope Extension Rivaling Groups “I am sick and tired of them”
We also spoke with Commissioner of Police Chester Williams on Saturday in Kings Park where he was attending the finals for the Ministry of Home Affairs Live Life Youth Basketball Tournament. The tournament is one of many initiatives organized in response to gang violence in the City. But despite efforts like this, ComPol Williams says that some persons are hell-bent on terrorizing their communities. We asked him about the flare-ups in the Antelope Street Extension Area and the cause behind the latest murders.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“While we see a flare up right now in Belize City where crime is concerned, it is something we are looking at seriously, particularly in the Antelope Extension Area and you would know that Hard Rock team is from the Antelope Extension Area. Again, the Complex Area, there team is in and again complex is one of the areas causing the flare ups. But, like I said those –persons who are a part of the team are not a part of the ongoing feud. So, what we will be doing, we will be looking at it. I and my minister are going to decide between now and Monday what course of actions will be taken against those groups causing the flare ups. Since yesterday, I directed the police to do certain things in the different areas to see how we can quell the feud in the time being until we decided what route we will take on Monday.”

“Is another SOE on the table?”
Chester Williams
“Anything is on the table. I can tell you that the crowd from the Antelope Extension, I am sick and tired of them. The truth is they have not felt the wrath of the SOE and that perhaps that is the reason they are behaving the way they are. The past three murders in the city have been committed by them. So, something drastically needs to be done for them to get the message.”
Paul Lopez
“What is causing that sort of flare up in there? Is it internal gang warfare or two rivaling groups?”
Chester Williams
“As you know in the Antelope Extension Area there are three different groups in that area and obviously there is. There is extremely high tension among them and as I have always said there are some of these young men that certainly don’t want anything good in life. We do a number of programs to try and work with them. We talk with them, do interventions with them. We do everything possible to try and get them to understand that the lifestyle they are living is not good for them, is not good for society.”
