Montalvo first Belizean to head B.S.I.
For the first time a Belizean will head the nation’s largest industrial corporation. Effective October 1st, Joey Montalvo has been appointed as Managing Director of Belize Sugar Industries Limited. He replaces John McFarlane, who has retired. The fifty year old Montalvo, formerly the company’s general manager, has worked for B.S.I., based at Tower Hill, for the last twenty-six years. Under a new management plan he will become B.S.I.’s chief executive and operating officer, with some of his old duties as general manager being redistributed to other senior staff members. B.S.I. is the sole refiner and exporter of Belizean sugar and molasses, with annual sales on the range of a hundred million dollars.
