Raffle winners abound in weekend draws
If you were feeling lucky this weekend then Saturday was your big chance. At least three major raffles were drawn and tonight three fortunate Belizeans are significantly better off.
Our first stop at midday, Saturday, took us inside the Belize Bank where the winner in the first prize of the bank’s 1998 Action Plan Loan Promotion Draw was picked. After the barrel was spun a couple of times, Harold Zuniga was announced as the winner of a computer and printer.

“I was in Cayo attending the annual general meeting for Helpage because I work for Helpage Belize as a physiotherapist.”
Q: “And that’s where you received the good news?”
Harold Zuniga
“Yes, I was at the meeting when my pager went off and I called back home and I was wondering what my daughter was bothering me for and she told me that Belize Bank had called and that I had won this computer.”
Q: “You couldn’t believe it?”
Harold Zuniga
“I couldn’t believe it. I said, I can remember getting a ticket, but I didn’t think it would be this quick.”
Things heated up in the afternoon as the action shifted to San Cas Plaza where a crowd gathered to see if they had won the Angelus Press or Santino’s raffles. In the Angelus Back to School raffle a young boy was called to pick the lucky ticket. In that draw, Elmer Philips of Reggae Street in Belize City won himself a 233 megahertz light speed computer with a cannon color printer. Then it was time to see who would ride away with the big one: a Pelican skiff powered by a Honda outboard.

“Actually, I have a small water taxi business in Corozal and this is going to be an addition to my business.”
The boat and engine were valued at thirty thousand dollars.
As we get closer to Christmas the raffle season will come into full swing. One we always like is the annual week long “Gimme Five” birthday party which this year will be held the week of November twenty-third.
