Dead woman still not identified
The results of a postmortem examination on the body of a woman who died several days after she was found in a swamp on the Northern Highway have been released. But instead of providing the conclusive answers the police were hoping for, it has raised even more questions. According to pathologist Doctor Mario Estradabran, the cause of death was fluid and swelling inside the lungs, due to a previous condition which is still under investigation. What were described as scratches on her body by police authorities turned out to be skin ulcers and rashes which the victim had been suffering from days before her death. While police gave the woman’s name as Dalila Martinez of Guatemala, Dr. Estradabran says that may not be accurate, as a friend of Dalila who went to identify the body said she could not be sure it was Dalila. Estradabran and the police are asking anyone who may know the identity of the dead woman, to contact the C.I.B. office in Belize City.
