Shyne Responds to Criticism of His Leadership

Following our interview with Vice Chairman August, embattled party leader Shyne Barrow also spoke with the media.  He shared with us his initial reaction on what has transpired.  Not only does the Mesopotamia Area Representative describe the actions of his in-house opponents as a distraction, he also views it as counterproductive in the face of other national issues that are being ignored.  Barrow told the media that in the six months that he has been at the helm of the United Democratic Party, clear timelines have been established for critical events that will shape the U.D.P.’s future.

“In six months, I set a schedule for standard bearers conventions, for delegates conventions, everything that I have promised, I have kept my word.  So if you have to lie to people to get them to sign a petition against me, that’s sad.  I could tell you that the chairwoman of Collet refused to sign the petition and she was forced to resign.  So that shows you what is driving this petition, and it has nothing to do with leadership style because if that was the case, you would have three hundred signatures, you would have two hundred and fifty signatures.  They just went a bit above the threshold.  But this is politics, we will continue forward.  We have a plan, before this happened we had conventions scheduled for the delegates, the standard bearers.  We have a constitution reform committee to look at our constitution and to amend it.  We have a membership drive to engage our current membership and to hopefully attract new members.  We have work to do.”
