John Jeffords is Beaten to Death

There is a murder to report tonight, following the passing of John Jeffords this afternoon. Jeffords was admitted at the K.H.M.H. in a critical condition for injuries he sustained during a beat down on Friday. His sister, Osey Jeffords reported to police that the forty-two-year-old mental health patient of a George Street address left home to purchase some items at a nearby store and he was brutally beaten by two men. John succumbed to his injuries around two p.m. this afternoon, just after today’s police press brief. Assistant Commissioner of Police Alden Dawson told the media that they are searching for two men known to police.

“Police responded to an incident on racecourse Street where information received that John Jeffords, forty-two years Belizean and also a mental patient of a George Street address, went to that location to purchase some items and whilst there, he was beaten by two individuals. He was taken to the K.H.M.H. where he remain in an unconscious state. At this time police are looking for one Brandon Hertula and another fellow only known to the police as Baptist or a person who they call “Cheese.”

“Is there any indication why they wanted to beat up this man?”

“No, at this time we don’t have any motive. Like I said, we are investigating the matter and those are the two named persons that may be able to assist us in the investigation.”

“Did you get cooperation from maybe eyewitnesses who saw the event, who might be able to name the suspects?”

 

ACP Alden Dawson

“Like I say, we investigating the matter and hence the reason we have two names. We have received some assistance from the public.”
