Coast Guard Officer Emmanuel McFadzean is Charged for Arson
Thirty-year-old coast guard officer Emmanuel McFadzean was arraigned earlier today on three counts of arson, following a fire on Saturday night that completely destroyed a coast guard patrol boat. This morning, the resident of Double Head Cabbage appeared before the magistrate’s court in the presence of attorneys Richard “Dickie” Bradley and Leeroy Banner. McFadzean, who has been with the Belize Coast Guard for the past twelve years, is accused of causing the destruction by fire of a Boston Whaler, along with three Mercury outboard engines, the property of the Government of Belize. The total damage to the vessel was estimated at six hundred and sixty-four thousand, five hundred and seventy-nine dollars. It was explained to him in court that the offense is an indictable matter which will be tried before the Supreme Court. McFadzean was granted bail in the sum of ten thousand dollars. McFadzean must report to the Ladyville Police Station every Friday between the hours of six a.m. and six p.m. and surrender all his travel documents.
