Guatemalan killed near border
From Chetumal to Guatemala, the news is no less tragic for another Belizean family, as a forty-five year old man was gunned down in front of his wife last night. According to police, Guatemalan national Carlos Canizales and his Belizean wife were walking from Melchor to Arenal Village on the Guatemalan side of the border when they were apparently attacked by a lone gunman. Canizales was shot dead but his wife was unhurt and there is no word on what the motive of the shooting might be. The village of Arenal spans both sides of the western border and its residents move freely between the two countries.
