Suspect in shooting says it wasn’t him
In crime news, police are still trying to piece together last Thursday’s shooting in Belize City which sent one man to the emergency room and at least three others scrambling for cover. Twenty-two year old Denvor Willoughby is the prime suspect in the late night incident and police are anxious to speak with him. But while the cops are combing the streets, the suspect today walked into our studios for a quick chat with News Five’s Patrick Jones. Accompanied by his mother, aunt and girlfriend, Willoughby says he has alibi for the night of the shooting: he was deeply engrossed with friends in a game of poker until the wee hours of the following day.
Denvor Willoughby, Shooting Suspect
“During that time I wasn’t wanted or didn’t have any intentions about any wrong doing in my mind or have any thought about being wanted for anything else, so I was still a free person up until Monday night when I saw the news and my face on it saying I was wanted for some shooting which took place on the tenth.”
Q: “Watching News Five on Monday, was it the first time you knew that you were wanted by the police?”
Denvor Willoughby
“Yes, sir. That was the first time and it left me in a shock too. I dropped my baby on the ground without any conscience to pick her up back. I would like to clear my name and to tell the people out there that I have no involvement in no shooting out there, never did. As I saw it on the TV and try to contact a lawyer to escort me to the station, I will be turning myself in and ask if they still want me for anything.”
While Willoughby left our studios saying he was going to turn himself in, when we contacted C.I.B. late this evening, he had still not showed up. According to head of the department Eli Salazar, there has been no change in the status of the case and Willoughby remains the prime suspect in the attempted murder of twenty year old Kimbran Mossiah. Willoughby told News Five that he does not even know Mossiah and is appealing to witnesses to Thursday night’s shooting to come forward and help him clear his name.
