Three succumb to burns in September 2nd explosion
Just one week after reporting the death of Irene Canche, the sixty-four year old woman who was severely burned in a gas tank explosion in San Jose Palmar Village, word has been received of the deaths of two more of the fire victims. According to reports, thirty year old Luz Maria Jimenez succumbed to her injuries and died on Thursday, September tenth, while the gas company attendant, Jaime Alonso Junior also passed away late last week. Both Jimenez and Alonso were among seven people injured when the tank, that Alonso was filling, exploded in the back yard of the Jimenez residence on September second. Also burned in the incident was Jimenez’s one month old baby Selena Canche as well as three and four year old daughters Gesnany and Prinsella. Both of the older children were badly burned and were flown out to the Shriner’s Hospital in Texas where they are said to remain in critical but stable condition. According to Ralton Patnett, the officer in charge of the Orange Walk Fire Station, they have completed their investigation into the incident and have concluded that the explosion was the result of a poor job done when a new bottom was welded on the cylinder.
