Woman chopped to death by boyfriend

A domestic dispute in the wee hours of this morning has left a Honduran woman dead and the police in hot pursuit of her live-in boyfriend. According to the head of C.I.B. in Belize City Eli Salazar, the police were called out to mile six and a half on the Northern Highway shortly after two o’clock this morning where they saw the body of twenty-three year old Ciriarca Varela. Reports are that she was chopped to death by her boyfriend, twenty-eight year old Ovidio Godoy. Initial police investigations indicate that when Varela got home around one a.m., she joined her boyfriend and some friends who live in the same house, for a couple of drinks. It was during this period of socializing that police say Godoy, without warning, pulled a machete from his belt and administered the fatal chop to Varela’s neck. Godoy, who fled the scene on a bicycle, is believed to be headed north. Police will try to ensure that he does not get far.
