Police Investigate Apparent Suicide at Hattieville Prison

Police are investigating what appears to be a suicide at the Belize Central Prison on Thursday afternoon.  Officers were summoned to Tango Eight where they observed the motionless body of twenty-three-year-old Evan Morales Gonzales on the ground with marks on his neck.  An initial investigation revealed that at around eleven-twenty-five a.m., a prison officer making his rounds, saw Gonzales hanging from the wall, gasping for air. He reportedly removed Gonzales and called the prison medic for assistance.  All efforts to resuscitate Gonzales were fruitless. Gonzales body remains at the K.H.M.H. morgue where it awaits a post mortem examination.
