Eat Right and Exercise – the Key to Avoiding Diabetes
Earlier today, the Belmopan City Council held a forum on diabetes awareness in connection with World Diabetes Day. The event included a diabetes summit with presentations by people who work with people suffering from the disease or are familiar with its effects. Today’s summit follows a run that the council led on Sunday with over a hundred persons taking part. Belmopan Mayor Sheran Palacio explained that her council felt the need to educate people more about the impact the disease can have on one’s life.

“Diabetes is a killer, diabetes is a chronic non-communicable disease that can be eliminated when we’re speaking about the type two. We know type one is different, but type two is all about lifestyle, so the idea – it’s awareness run and today we had our diabetes summit. It was not big as usual, and I really appreciate the small group of twenty that we had along with their two teachers. We had Dr DePaz from St Luke’s Hospital, we had Mystery Furtado from Type Diabeat-it and we have a visiting doctor from the United States and basically the information shared with the students, I can tell you, it was well-received. With proper lifestyle, we will be safe if we’re looking at food and exercise.”
