Sosa sworn in as Chief Justice
Last week at his press conference Attorney General Dean Barrow announced some late term judicial appointments… and today so said, so done. In a ceremony in Belmopan Justice Manuel Sosa was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court by Governor General Sir Colville Young. Sosa succeeds former Chief Justice George Singh who was at the same time sworn in as judge of the Belize Court of Appeal. Also taking the oath was Justice George Meerabux who will serve as an appeals judge in Singh’s absence. The appointments take effect today. For its part the opposition People’s United Party has announced its disappointment at the last minute nature of the appointments and has promised that, if elected, a P.U.P. government will review the procedure to see if it was done constitutionally.
