2009 Math Olympiad kicks off in Orange Walk
The Social Security Board opened the 2009 Belize Math Olympiad on Friday at the multipurpose building in Orange Walk Town. This is the third annual competition and two regional tournaments, the North A and B, were held. The North A regional match saw the participation of Muffles College, Orange Walk Technical High School, King’s College, Belize High School of Agriculture, Escuela Secundaria Mexico, and New Hope High School. The North B competition, held in the afternoon had the participation of the Belize Adventist College, Bishop Martin High School, Corozal Community College, Chunox St. Viator Vocational High School, Cornerstone Christian Academy, Linda Vista High School and San Juan Bautista High School competing for a slot in the National Championships. This year’s competition is different from the previous years in that the regional competitions are being held in Orange Walk, Belize City, Belmopan and Dangriga. At the end of the North A Division, the top three teams were: First place Orange Walk Technical High School; second place Muffles High School and in third place Kings College. In the North B competition, the top three positions were: first place Corozal Community College; second place Belize Adventist College; and in third place Bishop Martin High School. Each first place team will move on to compete in the National Championships being held on March twelfth at the Belize City Center. The Central A and B competitions will be held at the Belize City Center on Wednesday.
