Police Detain Suspects Pending Double Murder Investigation

It has been more than two days since Cleon Smith Junior and Kendale Ramirez were shot dead inside a rented Kia S.U.V. on Electric Avenue and police have detained an undetermined number of suspects pending investigations. The two friends were ruthlessly executed by a gunman who rode on Electric Avenue on a bike and fired fourteen shots at the pair as they sat in the vehicle. Smith was waiting to see his three-year-old son, after the child’s mother had told him to return to the location to see the child. But before he got the chance to see his son, Smith and Ramirez were shot dead. The shooter reportedly continued on his way along Electric Avenue after the double murder. Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams told the media on Monday that the police were looking at whether the mother of the child and her boyfriend were in any way involved since very few people knew that Smith was in Belize City and in the rented sports utility vehicle. He had just arrived along with Ramirez from southern Belize and went to see his son. But he and the child’s mother had gotten into a verbal exchange and she had reportedly told him to return, when he was shot dead.
