Carmelita Government School Offers Free Art Classes to Students
Carmelita Government School is also offering classes for its students who like to paint and want to learn more about the applications in basic artwork. With the knowledge gained from these free classes, the students can hone their skills to earn some money during the tourism season, as Keith Augustine, the administrator of the school, told us.
Keith Augustine, Administrator, Carmelita Government School
“We have a teacher on staff who is semi-certified in visual art and we have a mirage that is being painted by him and different things being done by him. We do sculptures, we’re trying to gear up for tourists because this is a main artery that lots of buses pass to go to Lamanai. And I want to tap into that so that these kids can be doing some painting and get one of those bus stops and display their art and make money for themselves. Painting national animals, forests, and sculptures of different animals – the jaguars or toucans, those kinds of things that when the tourists go back they could say this is what they got and this is an animal that exists in Belize.”
