David Kuan-Chou Chien, Taiwanese Ambassador
“On behalf of the Government of Taiwan, I am very delighted to hand over humanitarian assistance fund to Honorable Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries in support of the relief and the recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Lisa. It has been more than one month since Hurricane Lisa hut Belize, but as of today, a lot of people are still displaced and they urgently need assistance, especially in the area of Caribbean Shores in Belize City. Taiwan is a trustworthy and faithful ally of Belize. In our minds, Belizean people are our brothers and sisters and we sincerely hope that our small donation, our small assistance today, can make a big difference for the people whose lives are seriously impacted by Hurricane Lisa and the Government of Taiwan, the Embassy of Taiwan are committed to working continuously with the Government of Belize to further advance the welfare and the benefit of the Belizean people.”
Kareem Musa, Area Representative, Caribbean Shores
“Like the rest of Belize City, Caribbean Shores residents suffered a lot of loss, especially with the roofs on their homes, in terms of plywood and zinc and other materials, sheetrock, plycem, those are materials that we‘ve been giving out over the last month and a half and especially grocery bags at this particular time. That‘s something that we‘ve been doing every single week for the last month and a half, so this comes at a very opportune, timely time for us here in the constituency, to be able to give back to the constituents that are in most need, especially now that we have Christmas approaching. So it definitely is going to help those residents who suffered losses as a result of Hurricane Lisa and the value of the donation from Taiwan is twenty thousand dollars.”

“Have you had donations from others too, like was the need so severe in your division?”
“We had a donation as well from Atlantic Bank. They gave us a hundred grocery bags, so we want to take the opportunity to thank them as well for their contribution and other companies and agencies as well on a much smaller scale, have made contributions as well.”
